A magical first experience of dance
Toddler dance should feel like an adventure.
At Theative Performing Arts, our youngest dancers discover movement through music, storytelling, imagination and playful activities designed for the way little children actually learn.
Our toddler dance classes in Streatham begin from just 18 months old, offering a warm and joyful introduction to dance without expecting toddlers to behave like miniature older students.
Story Time Ballet for toddlers
Our Story Time Ballet classes combine early ballet foundations with magical stories, music, props and imaginative adventures.
Little dancers might flutter like butterflies, travel through an enchanted forest, balance like flamingos or dance with scarves and wands, all while beginning to discover ballet and movement.
For our youngest dancers, a parent or carer joins in too, giving children the confidence to explore while creating a lovely shared experience together.
Learning through movement and play
Our toddler classes may feel playful, but there's lots of important learning happening along the way.
Activities help children develop:
Coordination and balance
Rhythm and musical awareness
Gross motor skills
Listening and concentration
Spatial awareness
Confidence and independence
Taking turns and participating in a group
Most importantly, we want their earliest experiences of dance to be happy, exciting and full of imagination.
Small classes for little dancers
Our classes are intentionally kept small, creating a friendly environment where teachers can get to know each child and give them the attention and encouragement they need.
Toddlers develop at very different rates, so we don't expect every child to participate in exactly the same way from their very first lesson. Some jump straight in, while others need time to watch, explore and build confidence.
Both are completely normal.
Growing from toddlers to Tinies
As children grow, they can progress into our Tinies classes, where dancing gradually becomes more independent and structured while remaining creative, imaginative and age appropriate.
This gives children a natural pathway from their first parent-and-child dance experiences into classes where they begin developing stronger ballet foundations and greater independence.
What should my child wear to their trial?
There's no need to buy dancewear for a trial class.
Simply dress your child in comfortable clothing they can move freely in. Bare feet are absolutely fine for their first ballet class.
If they decide to join us, we'll give you all the information you need about the appropriate class uniform.
