Tap
Tap Dance is a dynamic and rhythmic dance style with a rich history that dates back to the fusion of African dance, Irish step dance, and other cultural influences. At Theative Performing Arts, we introduce young dancers to the exciting world of tap through our preschool combo classes, starting from age 3. In these fun and engaging classes, children learn the basics of tap, developing coordination and rhythm by making music with their feet.
As children grow, our tap dance program follows the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) Tap syllabus from the Primary level (Reception age) and continues up through the grades. Our tap classes emphasize developing strong rhythm, timing, and musical awareness, providing a solid technical foundation that supports a dancer's growth. Tap dance has a unique ability to enhance a dancer’s sense of musicality and rhythm, while also improving coordination, balance, and timing. Additionally, the rhythmic patterns and counting involved in tap can help enhance numeracy skills, making it a valuable part of a child’s learning experience.
Tap dance has a celebrated history, famously reaching its peak during the Golden Age of Hollywood, where it became a staple of iconic musicals and film performances. From the classic routines of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers to the contemporary rhythms seen in modern musicals and jazz music performances, tap continues to innovate and thrive, remaining an important and vibrant part of the dance world today. Learning tap not only connects dancers to this rich cultural legacy but also equips them with versatile skills that complement ballet and modern theatre dance beautifully.
Join us at Theative Performing Arts to explore the rhythmic world of tap dance, where your child can build confidence, develop essential dance skills, and have fun while learning this timeless and ever-evolving dance form!
