About Theative Performing Arts

Our Mission

When I opened Theative in 2015, it wasn't because I wanted to open a dance school.

It was because I wanted to create the kind of place I wished more dance schools could be.

A place where children and adults experience the joy, creativity and magic of dance...

A place where they feel safe to try, encouraged to make mistakes and inspired to discover what they're capable of. A place where high standards and genuine kindness exist side by side.

After years of training and working professionally, I know first-hand how powerful dance can be. It can build confidence, resilience, discipline and lifelong friendships. It teaches us how to work hard, persevere through challenges and celebrate progress. But I also believe those lessons don't have to come at the expense of compassion.

For too long, some performing arts environments have believed that resilience is built through fear, relentless criticism or tearing students down before building them back up. I don't believe that's true.

I believe resilience is built by setting high expectations, giving honest guidance, celebrating effort and creating an environment where children feel safe enough to keep trying, even when something feels difficult. Children deserve constructive feedback, clear boundaries and the encouragement to keep going when something feels difficult. That's how confidence becomes genuine resilience.

I believe dancers grow best when they feel seen, supported and genuinely cared for. I believe you can have high expectations while still celebrating effort. You can give honest corrections without knocking someone's confidence. You can teach resilience without teaching fear.

Above all, I want every student who walks through our doors to experience the feeling that made me fall in love with dance in the first place. That feeling of losing yourself completely in the music. The excitement of creating something beautiful. The pride of finally mastering a step you've been working on for weeks. The friendships, the laughter, the applause, the butterflies before a performance and the joy of doing something that makes your soul come alive.

Since opening with just one preschool ballet class and one very first student, it's been an incredible privilege to welcome hundreds of children and adults into Theative over the past decade.

Every dancer's journey is different, but seeing them grow, laugh, achieve things they once thought impossible and discover their own love of dance is still the greatest part of what I do.

My hope is that every person who joins Theative leaves not only as a stronger dancer, but as a happier, kinder and more resilient version of themselves. And perhaps one day, a few of those dancers will go on to inspire the next generation too.

Create together.
Grow together.
Shine together.

Our Values

Inspire

Helping every student discover what they're capable of.

We encourage big dreams, celebrate progress and help every student believe in themselves, whether they're taking their first dance steps or working towards advanced goals.

Create

Where imagination comes to life.

Through storytelling, music and performance, we nurture creativity, joy and a lasting passion for dance and the performing arts.

Belong

Every student deserves to feel seen, valued and supported.

We create a welcoming community where every child and adult feels safe to be themselves, build friendships and grow in confidence.

Grow

Progress matters more than perfection.

We aim high and celebrate the effort, progress and even the stumbles made along the way, knowing that every challenge is an opportunity to learn, grow and become stronger.

Shine

Helping every student find their sparkle.

Every dancer is unique. We celebrate individual strengths and give every student the confidence and self-belief to shine both in the studio and beyond.

Sarah's Story

"My daughter has been going to Theative classes since she was just 18 months old. What started as a chance for me to get out of the house with my toddler, meet other parents and entertain my daughter has grown into a genuine passion, focus and creative outlet for my now six year old.

I have been blown away by her progress over the years and she absolutely loves going. Miss Amy and her team put so much thought and care into making every class memorable, fun and inclusive, while still challenging every child to achieve their best."
