Ballet is for adults too
Whether you danced years ago, have always wanted to try ballet or simply want a different way to move your body, our adult ballet classes in Streatham offer a friendly and welcoming place to learn.
You don't need to be super flexible, remember ballet from childhood or fit a particular idea of what a ballet dancer should look like. Ballet is for anyone who wants to enjoy learning it.
What happens in an adult ballet class?
Classes work through ballet technique in a structured but supportive way, with exercises at the barre, in the centre and travelling across the studio.
Along the way, you'll work on:
Ballet technique and vocabulary
Strength and flexibility
Posture and alignment
Balance and coordination
Musicality and movement quality
Confidence and performance
You'll receive real ballet teaching and corrections to help you improve, without the pressure of feeling that you need to get everything right.
Beginners and returning dancers are welcome
Adults arrive at ballet with all sorts of different experiences.
Some are complete beginners taking their very first class. Some danced as children and have been wondering about returning for years. Others already have ballet experience and simply want a regular weekly class.
Our teaching focuses on helping each dancer progress from their own starting point, rather than expecting everyone in the room to have the same experience, flexibility or ability.
The physical benefits of ballet
Ballet is a brilliant full-body form of exercise, developing strength, mobility, balance, coordination and flexibility through controlled movement.
Because you're also thinking about posture, technique, musicality and combinations, your brain gets plenty of exercise too.
And unlike a workout that's purely about completing repetitions, there's always another skill, step or piece of artistry to explore.
An hour that's just for you
For many of our adult dancers, one of the best things about ballet is having an hour where everything else has to wait.
For the duration of class, you're concentrating on music, movement and learning something for yourself.
It doesn't matter whether ballet is something you've loved all your life or something you've only just discovered. You are allowed to have a hobby simply because it brings you joy.
A supportive place to learn
Our adult ballet classes are welcoming and encouraging while still giving you the opportunity to learn properly and make genuine progress.
There is no expectation that you already know what you're doing, and no judgement if you forget the combination, wobble in a balance or need something explained again.
We want you to feel comfortable enough to challenge yourself, make mistakes, laugh and keep learning.
