Dance classes children can grow with

Choosing a children's dance class is about more than finding another after-school activity. The right class can become a place where a child builds confidence, friendships, discipline, creativity and a real sense of achievement.

Theative Performing Arts offers children's dance classes in Streatham from the early years through to the teenage years, with a pathway that allows students to keep developing as their interests and abilities grow.

Ballet, tap, modern, acro and musical theatre

Every child is different, and part of the fun is discovering the style that makes them light up.

Our children's classes include:

  • Ballet for technique, musicality, artistry and beautiful movement

  • Tap for rhythm, coordination and plenty of personality

  • Modern Theatre for energetic movement, expression and exciting choreography

  • Acrobatic Dance for strength, flexibility, control and acrobatic skills

  • Triple Threat Musical Theatre for children who love dancing, singing, acting and performing

Students don't need to know their favourite before they begin. A trial class is often the easiest way to discover what sparks their interest.

Beginners are always welcome

Children don't need to have started dancing at three years old to belong at Theative.

We welcome complete beginners as well as dancers with previous experience, with classes grouped by age and level so students can learn alongside others at an appropriate stage of development.

As students grow, there are opportunities to progress into more technical training and, where appropriate, work towards graded dance examinations.

More than just great dancing

We want children to become skilled dancers, but the things they learn along the way matter just as much.

Our teaching encourages students to become confident, creative and resilient learners. They learn to accept corrections, persevere when something is difficult, celebrate progress and discover what they can achieve when they're willing to keep trying.

Most importantly, we want children to feel happy, supported and excited to come back to class each week.

Small classes, individual attention

Our children's dance classes are intentionally kept small, allowing teachers to really get to know their students.

This means dancers can receive meaningful feedback and individual attention while still enjoying the energy, friendships and teamwork of learning as part of a group.

We believe children thrive when they feel seen, supported and appropriately challenged.

A dance school to grow up in

We want Theative to be somewhere children can continue to learn, progress and feel that they belong as they grow.

Alongside weekly classes, students may have opportunities to participate in dance examinations, performances, workshops, holiday camps and special events, creating memories and experiences that go far beyond their regular lesson.
