What happens when you combine five days of acrobatics, dance, aerial skills, circus fun, creativity and a whole lot of determination?
You get our Acro & Aerial Summer Camp!
From 28th July to 1st August 2025, 27 young performers aged 4 to 12 joined us in Streatham for an action-packed week of acro training, dancing, games, crafts and some very exciting circus skills.
We welcomed a brilliant mixture of familiar faces returning for another Theative summer camp and brand-new campers joining us for the first time. Over five days, the children worked on their individual acro skills, challenged themselves to try something new and put everything together for a special performance for their families on the final day.

Building Strong and Confident Acrobats
Throughout the week, our campers worked on the foundations that help young dancers become safe, strong and confident acrobats.
Our training included shoulder strength and stability, flexibility, bridges, handstands and cartwheels, with exercises and progressions adapted to suit each child's individual level of experience.
For some children, this meant building confidence in the foundations of a skill. Others were ready to take the next step, with some of our older and more experienced acrobats working on skills such as kickovers from bridge and lowering backwards into a bridge.
One of the things we love most about teaching acro is that progress looks different for every child. There is always another little goal to work towards, whether that's holding a stronger handstand, improving the shape of a bridge, mastering a cartwheel or finally achieving a skill they've been working towards for months.

Of course, acrobatics isn't only about learning individual tricks. The children also explored partner work and ways of incorporating their acro skills into choreography, learning how acrobatics and dance can work together to create something exciting to perform.
Taking to the Air with Phina Circus & Dance
One of the biggest highlights of the week was a special workshop with Phina Circus & Dance, who transformed our studio with two portable aerial rigs and an enormous collection of circus equipment.
For many of our campers, it was their first opportunity to try aerial skills.
The children experimented with aerial hoop and silks, learning different positions and discovering just how much strength, coordination and confidence aerial work requires.

There were plenty of circus skills to explore back on the ground too, including spinning plates and poi. The studio quickly became a hive of children experimenting, practising, dropping things, trying again and celebrating when they finally got the hang of a new trick!
It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience another branch of the performing arts and discover skills they might never have tried before.
A Little Circus Inspiration
After trying some circus skills for themselves, we also spent some time watching clips from Cirque du Soleil.
Seeing professional acrobats perform gave the children a glimpse of just how extraordinary these skills can become with years of training, perseverance and practice.
It was a lovely reminder of something we encourage throughout our classes and camps: nobody begins by being able to do the finished skill.
Every impressive handstand, tumble, aerial trick or acrobatic sequence starts with learning the foundations, practising them again and again, and being willing to keep trying when something doesn't work the first time.
Creativity, Crafts and Camp Fun

Even the keenest little acrobats need some time off the mats!
Alongside all of our dancing and acro training, there was plenty of time throughout the week for games, creative activities and acro-themed arts and crafts.
Our holiday camps are about much more than how many skills we can squeeze into five days. We want children to make friends, be creative, laugh, play and enjoy being part of a group.
And there was certainly plenty of singing too.
KPop Demon Hunters had apparently taken over the world that summer, and our campers were completely obsessed. If there was a spare moment during the week, there was a very good chance someone would start singing and the rest of the room would join in!
From the Acro Mat to the Stage
As the week progressed, we began putting all that training into performance.
The children learnt three fun acro dance routines to Faith, 5, 6, 7, 8 and Baby I'm a Star, incorporating dance choreography, partner work and some of the acro skills they had been practising throughout the week.
Then, on Friday afternoon, it was time to transform our Streatham studio into our little theatre.
With our performance backdrop and lighting in place, families joined us for a special end-of-camp presentation.
Alongside their choreographed routines, the children presented some of the acro progressions they had been working on, giving parents the chance to see not only a finished performance, but some of the skills and training that had filled their week.
After five busy days, seeing everyone performing together was a wonderful way to finish the camp.
Acro Summer Camp Streatham: Another Brilliant Week at Theative
We were so proud of what our young performers achieved during our 2025 Acro & Aerial Summer Camp.
Some arrived already passionate about acro. Some were trying particular skills for the very first time. Some had joined us for previous holiday camps, while others walked through our doors without knowing anybody.
By Friday, they had trained, created, performed, made new friends, tried circus skills, flown through the air and hopefully discovered just how much they are capable of achieving when they're willing to give something a go.
And really, that's what a Theative camp is all about.
